last meal, foodie friday.

Normally on Twitter, Fridays are reserved for the ubiquitous #FF where tweeters suggest to their follows who to follow {got that?}. Well, because of a wonderful blog I stumbled upon the other day, I’m making today, Friday, September 7th, 2012 a Foodie Friday. Are you dying to know the blog? It’s called Can You Stay for Dinner?, and it is written by an amazing woman who lost a ton of weight awhile ago and has kept it off by exercising and cooking delicious and healthy dishes – one of her many passions. On August 26th, 2012, she wrote a post titled, My Ultimate Day of Eating. The title alone made me think she went on a crazy binge all day on her favorite foods – and regretted every morsel. BUT she got me when she asked her readers, “What would you eat on your last day on Earth?” She totally flipped the table on me with that one. That’s a pretty ballsy question to ask if we’re being honest. It’s also a little scary to think about. Did I commit heinous crimes and I am waiting for my turn in the electric chair? Do I know that tomorrow the world will end in some kind of apocalyptic, planet of the apes-type takeover? I was frightened. And completely intrigued. So I read on. Her fascination with this question paralleled mine and her blog post detailed all her “last meals.” I loved it!

Her menu consisted of this:

Breakfast – sweet concoction of French toast piled high with fresh berries, whipped cream, nuts and organic Vermont maple syrup.

Lunch – gourmet Buffalo chicken pizza, smothered in traditional tomato sauce, bleu cheese and fried chicken tenders.

Dinner – a gut-busting grass fed beef burger with peppers, bacon, cheese, and caramelized onions sided with a larger-than-average portion of fries.

{and of course} Dessert – a healthy portion of mouth-watering plain white cake with white frosting. Because that is a delicacy in itself. I formed a small drool puddle while typing this. Have you ?? This got me thinking about what I would have on my last day on Earth and, let me tell you, it is more difficult than I thought. Do I try something new or stick to my ‘already favorites’?

Here’s what I came up with:

Breakfast – My grandmother’s waffles. There is really nothing special about them or in them {I’m pretty sure she uses boxed Bisquick} except LOVE. I think I love them so much because she is the one who makes them. Oh and I would probably add tons of fresh fruit and syrup to top it off.

Lunch – A turkey and cheese Primanti Brothers sandwich. This is no ordinary sandwich. Between two thick slices of Italian bread, they stuff fresh-cut French fries, coleslaw, tomatoes and provolone. I had my first in Pittsburgh and nothing will ever rival this mid day monster.

Dinner – Last meal ever, got to make it count. I’ll go with the Steak, Steak, Steak Pizza from Tantalus, a restaurant in my hometown of East Aurora, NY. This savory pie is made with hand-tossed dough and dressed with marinated flank steak, portabella mushrooms, roasted garlic, caramelized onions, mozzarella and goat cheese, fresh basil and scallions. WOW. I wish I had a picture for you but it is out of this world. I miss it so much living in Florida!

Dessert – Right now I’m too full for dessert just talking about it, but if I had to choose I’d go for a “Gotta Have It” size of cookie dough ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery. Nothing beats raw cookie dough in very unhealthy portions. (;

Just thinking about, writing and editing this post, I feel satisfied! What would you all choose as your “final meals?”
Have a wonderful #FOODIEFRIDAY!
